The Guiding Principles

A Guide to Sustainability

Initially the famous Shingo Prize focused on tools and systems, and how those tools and systems drive results. The Prize was given out based on these results. But unfortunately, when far too many award-winning companies reverted back to their old ways. The Institute realized there was a big piece missing in this earlier definition of enterprise excellence. We needed principles that pointed towards sustainability.

From these insights the Shingo Modelâ„¢ was born.
