23.3 Recoding binary variables
A correlation matrix is an indespensible tool because it lets you see if correlations exist between input variables and output variables. It also lets you measure correlations between input variables. When a binary variable exists in nominal form, e.g., Y or N or Male or Female, it must be converted to a one or zero so that you can include the variable in a correlation matrix.
This video shows how to do this in MS Excel and in JMP.
