Excel Versions Supported

You will need to use Excel 365 or Excel 2019 to complete the activities in this course. Please note that the Cloud-based online version of Excel will not operate properly with the course materials; a version of Excel that has been downloaded and installed on your local hard drive is required for this course.

The version of Microsoft Excel you need for this course is part of the Microsoft Office suite and is often available at little or no cost to current students. Your instructor may have information on how to download a free or reduced-cost copy of Excel.

Excel for Windows versus Excel for Mac

The videos and screenshots for the course were created on a Windows PC. While much of the functionality is the same on both operating systems, there is still a significant amount of advanced functionality still not available on MacOS. For instance, the 'Evaluate Formula' functionality still does not exist on Mac. Further, importing and transforming data from other sources either costs money for the drivers or simply does not exist. Neither does PowerPivot.

We recognize that many of you want to learn and use Excel on your Mac. Thus, for this course, while we show you the full functionality of Excel, all assessments and exams can be done on your Mac. The layout of some of the options are different than what you will see in the videos, but we have had numerous students successfully complete the course on their Mac. If you choose to complete the course on your Mac, have confidence that any graded items can be completed on your computer as long as you have Excel 2019 or Excel 365.

Some students may choose to complete the course on Mac and others may find a Windows PC they can use for the course. Check with your professor to see if your institution supports other ways for you to access Excel on a Windows platform, such as helping you get configured on Bootcamp, running a virtual machine, or using a Citrix server.
