14.4 Documenting Memories on FamilySearch Family Tree
There are two ways to add memories on FamilySearch Family Tree, and there are times when one or the other is more efficient. If a researcher is utilizing the FamilySearch Memories app to collect images and audio files, the gallery is the best way to sort, store, and assign those memories to people on the tree. The gallery is a place where researchers organize all of the memories they have contributed to FamilySearch Family Tree. By clicking “Memories” then “Gallery” from the main FamilySearch menu, a FamilySearch member opens a screen that houses all of their files and allows for naming, tagging, and sorting those contributions.
The second way to add memories to FamilySearch Family Tree may be better at the conclusion of a research project because the log and family group records are organized by people. This memories page is separate from the gallery and, like the details page, is individualized for each person listed on FamilySearch Family Tree. To view a person’s memory page, navigate to that person on FamilySearch Family Tree, click on his or her name and then click “Memories.” New files can be added to this page and documents can be titled, described, and tagged for multiple people from this window. Once the researcher is on the memories page for the person of interest, the steps are as follows:
STEP 1: Click “Add Memories” and select the record type.
STEP 2: Upload the memory to the website.
STEP 3: Fill in the information about the memory, giving it a title and adding the place, date, etc.
STEP 4: Click on the file to tag the individuals represented in the memory.
STEP 5: Save the memory.
